Who Can Exit from Debt Review?

Our debt review removal services are for South African consumers who are under Debt Review and fall within the following categories:

🔹 Consumers with Financial Improvement

You now earn more income or your major expenses have dropped, allowing you to afford your full monthly instalments and essential living expenses. Improvement in your financial circumstance is proof that you are no longer over-indebted and remaining under debt review may no longer be helpful to you at this stage.
Examples: A parent who no longer pays university fees after their dependent graduates, or an individual who now earns significantly more income, A couple whose spouse did not make income previously but now earns income thus increasing their affordabilty.

🔹 Consumers who have Settled their Debts

You have paid up some or all of your debts and wish to clear your name from debt review. Some consumers settle their accounts but are unable to reach their Debt Counsellors for clearance while others are unaware that settling all your accounts does not automatically clear you from Debt Review until a clearance certificate (Form19) has been issued by a registered Debt Counsellor to all creditors and credit bureaus.

🔹 Debt Review by Erroneous sign-up, Without Consent or Uninformed Consent

You were placed under debt review without your knowledge or consent, either fraudulently or in error. Debt review requires that the Debt counsellor must do an over-indebtedness assessement to determine if the consumer's income can afford all their monthly instalments and their living expenses. The assessement will require the consumer to provide details of their income and monthly expenses. Step 2: Quick and Free Debt Assessment

Our team will briefly do a credit bureau check on your debts and your current financial situation to confirm if your income can cover all living expenses and monthly debt instalments. This helps determine the right debt review removal option for you.

Step 3: Free Credit Report & Documentation

As part of our free assessement, we’ll pull a free credit report to confirm your debt status. Depending on the outcome of the assessement, If we determine that we will be able to remove you from debt review and provide a Power of Attorney for your signature to begin the process.

🧾 Debt Review Removal Scenarios & What We’ll Do

🔹 Scenario 1: All Debts Settled (Excl. Bond/Home Loan)

  • We’ll contact all your creditors and request paid-up letters.
  • Bonds/Homeloans are long term loans and you will be cleared irrespective of whether your bond has been settled or not.
  • We then issue a Form 19 Clearance Certificate, which will be shared with all major credit bureaus.
  • Your name will be cleared from all systems within 3–14 working days after clearance.

🔹 Scenario 2: Improved Financial Situation but Still Owe Debts

  • You’ll need to send a recent payslip or proof of income, plus a bank statement.
  • We’ll submit a formal application to remove you from debt review based on your ability to now afford your original instalments.
  • Timeframes will vary depending on your specific case. Contact us for a timeframe that considers your specific circumstance.

🔹 Scenario 3: Placed Under Debt Review Without Consent

  • If you were added to debt review fraudulently or in error, we’ll challenge the process on your behalf and clear your name.
  • The outcome and timeframe for removal will depend on whether the restructuring plan was already finalised.

📄 Documents Required to do the Debt Review Removal Process

No matter your reason for exiting debt review, you will need to submit:

  • A clear copy of your South African ID or Passport for foreign nationals
  • A signed Power of Attorney. It is a 1 page document that grants the authority to contact your creditors directly and to update all credit bureaus.
  • Other documents may be requested based on your specific case (e.g. payslip, bank statement).
